Horse riding

Who wouldn't enjoy horse-riding? Even if you are not an able horse-rider, you can still take to the saddle to roam the many pony-trekking routes in the area and admire the wild countryside. The equestrian excursions help to reinforce the links between ecology and sport, offering a different kind of holiday, visiting uncontaminated zones of great splendour.
On horseback, it is possible to reach pathways and zones that would be otherwise impossible to reach by car. Ogliastra is a new territory, closed on one side by hills and mountains of Barbagia but opening at the coastline. Only the old coalminers and shepherds knew of, and still know of, the more remote paths that lead to breathtaking views: the majority of these paths were made by them for reasons of work. There are various equestrian centres throughout the area, at Tortolì, Baunei, Lotzorai, Barisardo and Tertenia.
There is no problem if you are trying this activity for the first time; before embarking on one of the many excursions, it is possible to attend a beginners' course.

Itinerary: Domus de janas (Lotzorai )

Departing from the stables at Lotzorai, at Santu Tomau, and led by qualified instructors, this excursion takes you to the archaeological site of the Domus de janas (house of fairies) in the park of Padentino, and to the nuragic ruins of Santu Tomau. The excursion is not of an advanced level of difficulty and lasts around 3 hours.

Itinerary: Golgo - Cala Sisine

Departs from the stables at Golgo for the Cala Sisine cove, crossing the "codula", a chasm formed by rock faces reaching up to 300m, created by the erosion by water and winds. The excursion lasts around 7 hours and unch can be either a packed lunch or in the restaurant "Su Coile" located at the cove.
Itinerary: the plains of Golgo

Departs from the stables situated on the basalt plains of Golgo, for a visit of the natural beauty of the plains themselves. Here you can see species of wildlife such as the donkeys, pigs, and goats that roam free. The plain is volcanic in origin, and is the site of the karstic chasm of Golgo, also known as "Su Sterru", with a depth of approximately 300 metres. In the surrounding area, you will see the fresh pools "as Piscinas", dating from the Nuragic Era. These pools become used as drinking holes for the wild animals during hot periods. A little further on, you can see the rural church of San Pietro, built during the 16th century. In front of the church you can see a "betilo" in the form of a man. Also, there are various nuragic ruins throughout the area. The duration of the excursion varies according to the group, and it is possible to finish the day in one of the numerous rest points dotted along the route.

We inform that in Ogliastra there are guides for excursions on the mountains or by the sea. Paths are not signed. Let's do excursions with guides.
Prices depend by the number of people, distances, transfer, lunch, etc.
