Distilled spirits

These are served as digestives following abundant lunches between friends or on special occasions. A drop of distilled grape juice or "abbardenti" is a daily ritual for some, especially among the older generations of the inhabitants of Gennargentu who tell that it will help them live for a hundred years.

" Abbardenti o Filleferru "(acquavite o grappa) is distilled rape, produced generally for home consumption in secrecy as the distillation of this alcohol is banned and, according to the law, no more than a couple of litres to have in possession is permitted. The alcohol percentage is very high, almost pure.

Liquore di mirto (myrtle liquor)
Gather the berries of the myrtle bush towards the end of November, beginning of December, wash carefully and leave them to dry. Macerate the berries for around forty days in pure alcohol or aquavite if preferred. After this period remove the berries and crush them, melt some sugar in hot water until a slightly cloudy mix is obtained. Once the mix has cooled, add the juice from the crushing of the berries. Before consumption, it is a good idea to macerate the resulting liquor for a while longer
